Stainless steel spring

Steel springs, also known as Garter springs are coiled steel springs connected at each end to create a circle. Most steel springs are typically manufactured from either carbon steel or stainless steel wire.

Galvanised carbon spring steel.
Stainless steel – RFF AISI 304.
Acid-resistant stainless steel RFF AISI 316.

Steel springs are a very common part of rotary shaft seals. The spring helps to energize the sealing lip and helps the rotary shaft seal to retain its radial strength. Over time the rubber of the sealing lip gradually loses its initial abilities to seal due to heat, loads or chemicals. The spring helps the sealing lip to retain its sealing capacity by keeping the sealing lip in its initial position.

Standard rotary shaft seals are equipped with galvanised carbon spring steel because of its affordable price and utility. In comparison with stainless steel, carbon spring steel has very high yield strengths, and will return to its original shape if temporarily deformed. For special conditions, e.g. for applications that require resistance to water, aggressive media or corrosive environments, springs are also available in stainless steel and in acid-resistant stainless steel.

PRODUCT ADVANTAGES
• Can withstand forces from all directions.
• Effective, and tolerates variations in volume, pressure, temperature and viscosity.
• Easy installation and removal.

APPLICATION
Used in radical shaft seals, belt-driven motors and electrical connectors.

INSTALLATION
Steel springs are fitted to keep the sealing lip in place. They can be fitted by us or bought individually.
